Dr. Timothy Hosea Discusses Sports Medicine on WCTC’s Points Medical Sound Advice

hosea-smallDr. Timothy Hosea, a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialty in sports medicine, was featured on the evening of March 4 in an informative and insightful appearance on WCTC 1450’s Points Medical Show with Bert Baron.

During the one-hour show, Dr. Hosea shared his experiences in treating patients of varying athletic capabilities, from young athletes, to professional and amateur adult teams, to weekend warriors. The following are some of the highlights of the broadcast:

  • Dr. Hosea discussed common overuse injuries for young athletes and ways to prevent these injuries. He emphasized the importance in continuing to encourage young athletes to stay active, but making them aware of how to avoid injuries.
  • One caller asked Dr. Hosea about her daughter’s iliotibial (IT) band injury, a common overuse injury.
  • Dr. Hosea mentioned his involvement in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) and the importance of the organization’s efforts for young athletes.
  • He provided his thoughts on concussion and the important strides being made to protect high risk athletes.
  • He discussed the recent increase in single-sport involvement for young athletes and its effects, particularly with the rise of overuse injuries.
  • Dr. Hosea offered his thoughts and insights on the various injuries Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose has endured.
  • He reviewed the different services provided by University Orthopaedic Associates (UOA) for athletes that prepare them to return to the game.
  • Another caller asked a question about meniscus injuries and the differences in treatment for a younger athlete and a middle-aged athlete.
  • The third caller asked Dr. Hosea about a labral tear and his concerns with injuring himself again.
  • The last caller asked about a previous arthroscopic surgery and why he may still be experiencing pain.
  • Dr. Hosea reviewed some of the recent important studies and discussions in orthopaedic sports medicine for injury preventation.
